Outline: Throwdown Thursday is The Duke’s monthly showcase featuring Victoria’s favorite bands with new and upcoming acts. Come on down and support local music!
Carmine: Carmine is an emerging female-fronted band from Victoria BC, blending driving basslines, gritty synth, and lush vocal harmonies into a striking alternative rock sound. Since forming in 2024, the band has quickly made waves with songs that are both raw and cinematic. Their latest single, I Don’t Wanna Be Friends (April 2025), was produced by Mike Noble (Hotel Mira) and mixed by James Younger (Yukon Blonde, Sam Roberts, The Zolas), adding to their growing reputation for high-caliber production.
Carmine also partners with BC non-profit organization “The Jellyfish Project,” performing their music and advocating for climate action in schools across Vancouver Island.
Following a strategic social media campaign, Carmine has built momentum and high engagement on TikTok, inspiring fans to create their own edits and visuals to the band’s music. Carmine is more than just a band to watch; they are a band that encourages fans to join their creative movement.
Teenage Art Scene: Led by Rupert Yakelashek, Teenage Art Scene is a solo project turned supergroup comprising Huckleberry Flett of Silverware, Marco Bernardez-Lai of Good luck Madeline and The Aubreys, and Will Jagger of Peanut Butter Telephone. Playing uniquely crafted pop songs with the energy of a punk band, Teenage Art Scene has established themselves as upcoming stars in the Canadian music scene. Campus and community radio has taken notice, and the band has consistently charted on the !Earshot top 50 and has been in rotation across the county for the last 3 years. Teenage Art Scene’s winning blend of Power Pop, Slacker Rock, and Indie Pop can be heard across the albums “Spill!”, “Wrong Datum”, “Sensory Entanglement”, and “Minor Leagues”. Not ones to repeat themselves, “Pipes on the Inside” embraces indie electronica and experimental synth pop. “Lo Gain High Fuzz” is a record split in half between psychedelic folk and amped up garage rock.
Idle Lane: Idle Lane are a Victoria-based rock outfit who have been cutting their teeth on stage since 2021, with over 30 released studio recordings and performances at notable venues and festivals across Canada. Their sound channels a stream of influences from the ’70s and ’90s and delivers a punch through double guitar attacks and expressive melodic phrasing. With new music always in the tank, they frequently give a taste of their unreleased bangers at their shows. Idle Lane is a band you simply have to experience live.
