SUMMARY:THROW DOWN THURSDAYS VOLUME IV
DESCRIPTION:Throw Down Thursdays\nFeaturing KSAR\, The Wes Carroll Confabulation & fivefootnine \nThursday\, September 6th\, 2024\nDoors: 8PM\nShow Wrap-Up: 12AM \n19+ \nOutline: We are excited to announce a new monthly addition to The Duke Saloon’s music calendar! Throwdown Thursdays will shine a spotlight on local talent\, helping you find your new favorite bands from among Victoria’s rising stars. \nBand Bios: \nKSAR: \nKSAR is an ever evolving collective of musicians formed in 2021 in Victoria BC. Accordion and voice are supported by guitars\, bass\, trumpet\, mandolin\, drums\, and synth. Strong Balkan\, middle eastern dance and afrobeat influences are interlaced with contemporary pop\, indie rock\, and chamber folk styles. The live show is colorful and exuberant\, fun\, danceable and emotionally charged. Lyrical themes seek to inspire positive change while touching on difficult topics such as the homeless crisis\, and the loneliness epidemic… \nRaising important questions about our current way of life\, while participating in a vibrant celebration of it is what KSAR is. \nThe Wes Carroll Confabulation: \nThe Wes Carroll Confabulation walks the tight rope\, balancing detailed arrangements with the power of spontaneity. Since 2015\, they have honed their unique blend: stretching out into a world of hip-hop grooves\, soul and electricity while not losing their jazz footing. Their set blends Carroll’s distinct\, hip-hop-inspired singing\, dynamic guitar solos\, and modern-jazz horn lines with themes that include that include the rising cost of living\, sexual humor\, re-imagining masculinity\, distraction\, hopelessness\, and quirky love. Wes has traveled the world\, playing concerts in the EU\, the UK\, across Canada\, and the US. In 2021\, he finished a Masters in Jazz Performance as a guitar major at the University of Toronto and has since become faculty at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. While focusing on his own sound he also learns from the greats with side-projects that include “Wes plays Wes” (a tribute to Wes Montgomery)\, and PIGS: Canada’s Most Authentic Pink Floyd Tribute where he performs as Roger Waters. The Confab are currently promoting their third studio album “Helium” (Released May 24\, 2024). \nfivefootnine: \nfivefootnine is an indie rock ‘n’ roll band formed by five friends in Victoria\, BC. Their dreamy sound\, identifiable by its wistful vocal harmonies\, atmospheric synths and guitars\, and jazz-tinged rhythm section\, hits like a ton of bricks made of clouds. With palettes molded by the halcyon sounds of 00’s alternative\, they also regularly flirt with crunchy shoegaze riffs\, midwest emo angst\, and sugar-coated pop punk melodies. Never above lying about their height\, what they may lack in physical stature they compensate for with a sonic heft that is sure to gently rock your world. \nAs per government regulations\, we require two pieces of valid ID for entry\, including one piece of government issued Photo ID. We are proud members of the BarWatch Program.
